Recently, I shared with a friend that it has been awhile since I posted to my blog. We discussed the 3-part series about Fabrics that Flatter Your Flair and the next post about the hourglass silhouette. I talked about feeling overwhelmed (join the club right). We are all too familiar with the life of motherhood, working full-time while building a business part-time, volunteering, training and personal development, and networking socials. The list can go on with the number of hats we wear as women.
So, to build myself back up, I had to do another mirror-image affirmation reflection. In August, I turned fabulous 46 years of age and let me tell you, the journey is real, and my purpose is limitless. As long there is breath in my body I will never stop encouraging and inspiring women to be their personal best. Having said that, I appreciate your emails and IMs asking when I was going post about the “hourglass” figure. But first, here’s my inspirational post for today:

THE HOURGLASS SHAPE
You know the saying … “If you’ve got it… flaunt it.” Characterized by a narrow waist and wider hips and bust – you’ve got the ideal curves that everyone strives to achieve. The hourglass shape is so popular many fashion designers, media outlets, and fitness pros provide countless tips and tricks to help women contour their waist by any means necessary. But, if you have followed me, you know that we are all fearlessly and wonderfully made and should do what makes us feel and look our personal best every day regardless of body shape or size.
Women with an hourglass shape have a natural allure and are often tempted to show a little too much of their curves. Remember, to keep it classy; simplicity is key for you. You can practically wear anything, and it would look fabulous on you, just don’t give admirers too much all at once – you know as moms and grandmothers have taught us for many years “give em a little shoulder and take it right back.”
FABRICS FOR YOUR BODY SHAPE
Your shape is your asset. There is nothing you can do to conceal it. Your figure outline is visual without being intentional. Therefore, EMBRACE IT and adorn it with fabrics that are form-fitting and always flattering such as spandex, matte jersey, stretched cotton, and leather are just a few fabrics that will slay your curves. Keep it simple with solids. And be mindful of prints with overly busy patterns, they have a tendency to add wait to undesired areas.

STYLES TO FLATTER YOUR HOURGLASS FLAIR
The hourglass shaped dressing objective is to choose styles that accentuate your curves and elongate your body shape.
- bodycon or peplum dresses
- wrap tops emphasize the waist
- tapered or skinny leg pants
- pencil skirts with a slit that stops at or above the knee
Avoid masculine, shapeless, boxy, bulking clothing. They do nothing for your figure type.
MAKE A STATEMENT AROUND YOUR WAIST
Accessories such as belts, sashes, and ties will accentuate your naturally defined waist will not only highlight shape but will also amp up the pizazz factor of your outfit.
You are fearlessly and wonderfully made … celebrate every part of your being. And, if you ever find yourself self-criticizing, listen to these favorite anthems … “I Am Every Woman” by Chaka Kahn, “Indie.Arie” and “Beautiful Flower” by India Arie (well basically any song by India Arie), and “All About that Bass” Meghan Trailor just to name a few. And, remember to keep it authentic, classy, confident, and courageous every day.
